The Mommy Update

There are things about being pregnant that are beautiful. Wonderful. Miraculous. There are also things about pregnancy (at least in my case) that are not as glamorous. In the midst of all of this chaos you have to have a sense of humor, it may come across to some as cynical. I am happy, I am blessed, I am rich in all the ways that matter.  Pregnancy things for me are kinda messy. Life is messy yet all beautiful at the same time. Messy in the way that sometimes you want to pull your hair out, sit on the ground and throw a tantrum. Enough so that sometime I look at Declan when he gets this way, then I sit on the floor across from him and tell him "you have big boy words, lets use them...and then I say screw it, mommy has big girl words and I don't really know how to use them either. Declan do you want a popsicle, while mommy has ice water?"

Gestational Diabetes we meet again...
I have GD again. UGH. That is what we call it, GDGD, you can guess what it means or maybe you have something more creative. I didn't pass my glucose tolerance test. I have been testing my blood sugars since the beginning with this pregnancy. I am a guru at counting carbs. I know what my blood sugar is going to be before I even take it. This means I have to have fabulous sleep, drink enough water and carry snacks for myself at ALL times. Its easier than it was last time. Although I have those moments of wanting to do whatever I want and eat whatever I want when I am pregnant. Yep, never going to happen for me. Besides it shouldn't be eat what you want when your pregnant...it should be eat that when you are breastfeeding when the weight falls off and you burn 500 extra calories a day!
So I see the perinatologist, diabetes educator and have an ultrasound every 3 weeks. To make sure I am competent in taking blood sugars, managing my diet etc. They do an ultrasound to measure the little guy and check his growth and fluid levels. Poorly managed GD moms can have some serious issues, which is why they keep such a close eye. I am writing this on Tuesday and I have an appointment tomorrow so I will make sure to update with photos and the details.

Holy nerve and joint pain...
OOOOWWWWWWIIIIIIIIEEEEE! Sometimes I feel like the biggest whiner when it comes to all of this joint pain. I have a lovely back brace that really doesn't help much. This time around everything is so much looser in my joints that I will literally step to avoid a bunny cracker on the floor and pinch a nerve. Plus this time there is no relax all day and put your feet up. I got told last week by my abrupt Chinese acupuncturist that I was "TOO tired, you need nap. Every day, at least 30 minutes!" Yikes, yes maam. Not to mention nothing makes you feel worse than thinking you did a great job with your hair and makeup, feeling all beautiful, walking into work and having your friends say "you look tired." We all know what that is code word for! But I did it. I took 3 naps in the last week. I slept in 3 days this weekend, thank you to super daddy himself. And this morning I got up at 6:30 all ready for the day and D$ slept until 8:30am!!! Sometimes God has the best sense of humor!
I started in the pool. The last two weeks I have been to the pool 5-6 times a week, plus walking with Declan in the morning. The pool feels A.M.A.Z.I.N.G! I have done water aerobics with my mom several times and the other days I swim, do resistance exercises and run in the pool. And major bonus is I don't get hot.

I am going to stop now before I get way into the inner depths of this mommy's brain. Special thank you to a few special friends, cousins, family who have really reached out to offer their support these last few weeks. It means more to Jonathan and I than we could ever share.
I am going to leave you with a few photos of Sapling #2 and of Declan! Sorry not very many have been taken of the belly that I think are very flattering...so until that happens...

Much Love and gratitude,
The Mommy Tree
