Baby Maple is growing steadily, having gained about 4 ounces since last week. Since he's almost a foot long, he cuts a pretty lean figure at this point, but his body is filling out proportionally and he'll soon start to plump up. His brain is also growing quickly now, and his taste buds are continuing to develop. His lungs are developing "branches" of the respiratory "tree" as well as cells that produce surfactant, a substance that will help his air sacs inflate once he hits the outside world. His skin is still thin and translucent, but that will start to change soon.
At week 24, baby’s progress isn’t just about internal stuff, it’s about his looks too. With pinker, more opaque skin, he is looking more and more, well, like a baby. However, I have been experiencing some of the discomforts, mostly sciatic pain. I have tried stretches and repositioning, but from what it sounds like it won't get much better till we deliver. Although I do have moments of relief when he decides to move to the other side.
Although we did have a great weekend! Got to see Kait's boyfriend Alex, who was back in Albuquerque for a few days before he had to report to base in Pensacola, FL. He just finished Officer Candidate School in Rhode Island after several months. Which meant we got to have a family dinner at my mom's house!
We also got to have a wonderful fall breakfast at Church Street Cafe in Old Town with our friends for Josh's birthday!
Breakfast with our dear friends Josh, Jane, Rachel, Tom and Baby Kyle!
